Bicultural Commitment

Te Tiriti o Waitangi is the cornerstone of the Christchurch Methodist Mission's commitment to biculturalism. The principles of Te Tiriti underpin all kaupapa and mahi of CMM.

Much of our work is with whānau and communities for whom this commitment is important. CMM demonstrates this commitment by employing a cultural lead who ensures the work of CMM is consistent with its pledge.

As an organisation, we mark significant dates in the Māori calendar, including Waitangi Day, Matariki and Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, and hold organisation-wide hui on local marae as a mark of respect to local hapu and iwi. Our kaumātua, Dr Terry Ryan and Roz Wilkie kindly preside over significant events and openings. CMM runs Whare Tiaki, a shared supported living home for eight kaumātua, run under kaupapa Māori principles.
