Advocacy

The Christchurch Methodist Mission is committed to engaging in advocacy work alongside our service provision. Doors to Dignity: Ensuring all older people are housed well

Doors to Dignity is our multi-year campaign on older persons housing, launched in October 2025. CMM is concerned about the growing number of older persons who are struggling to access safe, affordable housing. Our Doors to Dignity campaign seeks to improve housing outcomes for older people through a range of advocacy initiatives.

Submission on the Treaty Principles Bill

In January 2025 CMM Executive Director Jill Hawkey and Strategic Advisor Jane Higgins presented to the Justice Select Committee about CMM's submission on the Treaty Principles Bill.

"Our brief presentation was based in the reality that every day we see the impact of colonisation, urbanisation, the separation of whānau from their whenua and of racism. 60% of those who we work with who are long-term homeless are Māori; the impact of colonisation and intergenerational trauma," says CMM Executive Director Jill Hawkey.
