Working together to build resilience and a better life

CMM clients often gain strength from knowing they’re not alone. To realise that others are walking the same path, facing the same struggles and seeking the same answers can be encouraging and a source of motivation.

For a number of years, CMM has run group programmes for children, women and men, believing that in coming together as a group, solutions can be found and that sense of isolation reduced. Group programmes reflect our commitment to helping people build resilience and create a better life for themselves and their family.

“Looking at an issue and discussing it with a facilitator and peers in the same situation can provide people perspective and understanding that working alone on a problem may not bring,” CMM Groups Coordinator, Rowena Dawson-Bovendeerd says.

“Knowledge is power. Therefore, giving children in our Wise-Up programme a chance to learn in-depth about all the different emotions is of huge benefit. Talking, sharing and normalising the fact that we can all feel hard emotions can come as a relief to tamariki. It can lay a great foundation in terms of learning how to manage emotions in our daily lives.”

CMM offers quality courses that have been refined over the years to deliver results. All are free and each runs for up to two hours a week over a set number of weeks. Group sessions are led by trained facilitators, who have expertise or experience in their field.

ParentWorks is for parents who have a child or children aged up to 13 in the care of Oranga Tamariki or who acknowledge they have care and protection concerns.

We also provide the Building Awesome Whānau programme, which draws on the wisdom of mātauranga Māori to offer families a kaupapa that is unique to Aotearoa.

Men on a Mission helps men develop strengths and skills, discuss life issues and overcome isolation. The programme encourages them to look into services, activities, work or training opportunities they may not have considered.

Woman Wise helps women look ahead and develop the self-confidence to be all they can be.

Wise-Up runs every term in schools and community venues around Christchurch for 8-10 year olds. It supports children in their efforts to recognise feelings and emotions, and explore new and different ways of dealing with them and discover their personal strengths.
