It is a pleasure to welcome Jared Riwai-Couch as the new Pou Manukura for the Christchurch Methodist Mission. Jared brings deep whakapapa connections to Ngāi Tahu and Kahungunu, grounding his leadership in the stories, values and responsibilities of his tīpuna. Based in Ōtautahi with his wife Melanie, he is a proud father of five and a very proud koro — a role that inspires his commitment to a future where all tamariki and whānau can thrive.
As Pou Manukura, Jared will guide cultural leadership across Te Waipounamu, strengthening CMM’s bicultural practice and our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. His work includes building enduring relationships with mana whenua, supporting kaimahi in tikanga and te reo Māori, and ensuring our services reflect the aspirations of Māori communities.
Jared brings extensive experience from the New Zealand Police, his work as a qualified Social Worker, and leadership within his Church community. Known for his calm presence and collaborative spirit, he holds a deep belief in the dignity and mana of all people. Outside of work, you’ll often find him on the courts at the Cashmere Tennis Club.
